Kobekina, Lazarova, and the MKO

In the work of Claude Vivier and Chaya Czernowin, this dialectic is existential. As an orphan of unknown parents, a homosexual, and a French-Canadian, Vivier saw himself repeatedly marginalized. His lifelong search for his biological mother led him to Paris, where he was murdered by a prostitute in März 1983. Three years prior, he commemorates himself with ›Lonely Child‹. Czernowin's work revolves around origin and identity, her parents' Holocaust experiences, and the political conflicts in her homeland Israel. In ›Birds‹ from 1984, birds symbolize the longing to overcome divided skies. A seminal work is the ›Petite Suite‹ by Claude Debussy, premiered in März 1889. While it is still rooted in French Romanticism, it simultaneously anticipates the future. At the Pariser Weltausstellung 1889, Debussy would soon after encounter Gamelan music from Java. With it, he created his Impressionism: a sonically new French home and identity.
