Fischer Fritz, a widower and former fisherman, lives in the family home, a place he refuses to leave despite his advancing age. His son Franz has moved away to open a hair salon in Munich and offers no help with the fishing business or his father's care. When Fritz resists moving to a nursing home, a Polish caregiver named Piotra is hired. She moves to the Bavarian countryside and dedicates herself to the grumpy old man. Piotra finds escape from her isolated world through online chats with Borys, the bus driver who brought her there. Despite initial communication difficulties and distance, Piotra and Fritz grow closer, particularly as she discovers how to prepare fresh fish for him.
